Review

Once you start reading this book you will not want to put it down. You get so caught up in the story you just don’t want it to end.

The author of Holding Up the Universe, Jennifer Niven is a well known author. She earns this reputation with Holding Up the Universe. This book tackles weight issues, confidence and identity issues as Prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is the inability to  recognise the faces of familiar people. Jennifer Niven makes all of these issues easy to understand, personal and heart-warming.

The characters in this book may be two of my favourite book characters ever. Both of them are completely different it seems, but have so much in common to both of their surprise.

Jack seems to be the confident, popular guy in high school. But he is hiding a big secret he has prospagnosia, he cannot recognise faces. He hides behind a mask. He is extremely funny and although he seems horrible is actually a really nice guy.

Libby at first seems to be a shy girl. But she is confident and will speak her mind whenever she wants to. She will not let anyone put her down. I really admire Libby’s character as I wish I had the confidence that she has to speak her mind. Libby is also the character who spoke my favourite quote from Holding Up the Universe , “And now my heart is nowhere on earth to be found, I can see it as it bypasses the moon and the stars and goes blasting into another galaxy.

I cannot find anything wrong with this book at all. I just wish that the book was a little long, but this is a good thing because you know that this book has captured your heart.

Jennifer Niven has yet again written a beautiful novel that so many people will love.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Jennifer Niven si the perfect voice for young adults, she is raw and honest. I would recommend this book to young adults and adults.

“You are wanted. You are necessary. You are loved.”
